Using Markdown

What is the difference between CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown?

CommonMark is the standard core: headings, emphasis, lists, links, images, quotes and code. GitHub Flavored Markdown adds tables, task lists, strikethrough, footnotes and automatic links. Each page here says which one a form needs.

Does Confluence support Markdown?

Partly. The Confluence Cloud editor turns a few Markdown shortcuts into formatting as you type, but it doesn't render a pasted Markdown document or import .md files. Markdown Macro+ renders Markdown inside a page, and Markdown Importer turns .md files into Confluence pages.

Can I use HTML in Markdown?

Most renderers allow inline HTML, which is how you get underline, image sizes and collapsible sections. Hosted tools such as GitHub remove styles and scripts, so check the pages marked “Needs HTML” for what survives.

How do I export Confluence pages to Markdown?

Confluence's built-in export offers PDF, Word and HTML, not Markdown. Markdown Exporter for Confluence exports pages, page trees or spaces to .md files with front matter and attachments.
