Does it work on Jira Server or Data Center?

No. Issue Templates & Recurring Tasks for Jira is a Jira Cloud app built on Atlassian Forge, so it is Cloud only.

What does auto-apply mean?

When someone opens Jira's Create dialog for a space and work type you assigned a template to, with Auto-apply on, the summary, description and fields are already filled in. There is no picker and no extra step.

Does it work on the Jira Service Management customer portal?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Assign a template to a portal request type and the portal form opens filled in. Jira allows fewer fields on the portal, and the template form marks the ones that don't apply there.

Which fields can a template set?

Accepted Answer

Summary, description, labels, priority, assignee, reporter, due date and environment. In Jira's Create dialog a field fills in only if it is on that space's create screen; Create work item from template and Apply template set them all.

Can a template create sub-tasks?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A template can carry up to 30 child items: sub-tasks under a task, story or bug, and tasks under an epic, each with its own assignee, due date, priority and labels. They are added by Create work item from template, Apply template and the Scheduler. Jira doesn't let apps add them from its own Create dialog.

What are variables and questions?

Variables such as {{date+7d}}, {{user.name}} and {{project.key}} fill in when work is created. A question such as {{ask:Customer name}} asks the person creating the work for a value; a schedule keeps its answers.

How do recurring tasks work?

Accepted Answer

Pick a template, a space and work type, and a schedule: every few hours, daily, weekdays, weekly, monthly, yearly or cron, in any time zone. Schedules are checked every 5 minutes, can skip or move runs on days off, rotate the assignee, link each item to the last one and comment when a run fails.

Can I turn an existing work item into a template?

Yes. Open it, choose Save as new template from the ••• menu, untick what belongs only to that work item, and save. Formatting is kept.

Can I move templates between sites?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Export the templates you pick to JSON and import them on the other site. Assignments are matched by space key and work type name, and anything that doesn't exist there is listed rather than guessed.

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

In Forge storage on your Atlassian site. The app calls no services outside Atlassian, which is why it is part of the Runs on Atlassian program.
