Confluence for technical documentation, the way engineers write it.

Confluence is where most companies already keep their docs. These apps add what engineers expect from a docs tool: Markdown, publishing from Git, real equations and embeds, and exports that still look good outside Confluence.

What changes for your docs

  • Writing

READMEs pasted into the editor lose their tables and code formatting.

Write Markdown on the page with live preview, or import .md files as a page tree.

  • Keeping in sync

Someone copies docs from Git by hand, and Confluence is stale by the next release.

CI publishes the docs to Confluence on every merge.

  • Math and examples

Formulas are screenshots, and interactive examples live somewhere else.

LaTeX renders on the page, and HTML, CSS and JavaScript examples run inside it.

  • Sharing outside

Customers get a Confluence login or a PDF that loses the layout.

One branded PDF of a whole page tree, or Markdown for their own repo.

How teams run technical docs in Confluence

Four steps, each done by one app. Use the ones you need; they work on their own.

  1. Write in Markdown on the page

A split editor with live preview, GitHub-flavoured tables and task lists, code highlighting and KaTeX math. The Markdown source stays editable.

  2. Import existing docs and publish from Git

Bring in a file, a folder or a ZIP; folders become parent pages. Then publish from CI through the REST API on every push, with tokens that expire after 1 to 30 days.

  3. Add equations and live examples

Inline and block LaTeX rendered by KaTeX, and HTML, CSS and JavaScript embeds with version history and a content security policy you control.

  4. Share it outside Confluence

Turn a page tree or a whole space into one PDF with a cover, table of contents and watermark, or export it back to Markdown for Git and Obsidian.

Questions

Is Confluence good for technical documentation?

For internal docs, yes: it is where the rest of the company already works, and permissions, search and page history come with it. The gaps are the things engineers rely on, namely Markdown, a link to Git, math and controlled exports. Apps close those gaps without moving the docs anywhere else.

Can I write Markdown in Confluence Cloud?

The editor accepts some Markdown shortcuts but does not keep Markdown source. Markdown Macro+ adds a macro where you write Markdown in a split editor with live preview, and the source stays editable afterwards.

How do I keep Confluence in sync with docs in GitHub or GitLab?

Keep the Markdown in the repository and publish it from your pipeline. Markdown Importer has a REST API that creates or updates a page per request, so a CI job can push the docs to Confluence on every merge.

Can I add LaTeX equations to Confluence?

Not natively in Cloud. LaTeX Math for Confluence adds inline and block macros rendered with KaTeX, including chemistry notation with \ce{}.

How do I export Confluence documentation as a PDF for customers?

PDF Exporter turns a page, a page tree or a whole space into one merged PDF, using templates your admins manage, with a cover page, headers and footers, page numbers, a table of contents and an optional watermark.

Do these apps send our documentation to another server?

No. Every app is built on Atlassian Forge and carries the Runs on Atlassian badge, so it runs on Atlassian's infrastructure and your content stays on your Atlassian site.
