Separate cells with pipes and put a divider row of dashes under the header. The columns don't have to line up in the source. Tables come from GitHub Flavored Markdown and every table needs a header row.

Questions
How do I merge cells?
You can't in Markdown. Use an HTML <table> with colspan or rowspan where HTML is allowed, or split the table.
How do I put a line break or a list in a cell?
Use <br> for a line break. Block content like lists or code blocks can't go inside a Markdown table.
Is there a faster way to write tables?
Table generators and editor extensions turn CSV or a spreadsheet selection into Markdown, and most editors re-align the pipes for you.
Table in Confluence
Markdown Importer converts Markdown tables into native Confluence tables with alignment, and Markdown Macro+ renders them inside a macro. Both list merged cells as a known limitation, so keep tables simple. Markdown Exporter exports Confluence tables with their header row and column alignment.
