Markdown syntax

Works everywhere
![Alt text](image.png)

An exclamation mark, then link syntax. The alt text describes the image.

An image is a link with an exclamation mark in front. Write alt text that describes the picture for screen readers and for when it fails to load. Relative paths like ./images/chart.png are resolved from the Markdown file's folder.

All ways to write it

  • ![Alt text](image.png)
An exclamation mark, then link syntax. The alt text describes the image.Works everywhere
  • ![Alt text](image.png "Title")
    With a tooltip title.Works everywhere
  • [![Alt text](image.png)](https://yamuno.com)
An image that is also a link.Works everywhere

Example

You type

![Yamuno logo](https://yamuno.com/logo.png)

You get

Yamuno logo

The image shows at its natural size. To control the size, see image size.

Questions

Why is my image not showing?

Check the path is relative to the Markdown file, not to where you run the tool, and that the file name matches exactly, including case.

How do I add a caption?

Markdown has no captions. Put a line of italic text under the image, or use <figure> and <figcaption> where HTML is allowed.

Image in Confluence

Markdown Importer uploads local images as Confluence attachments, can fetch remote ones, and updates the image references for you. Inside a Markdown Macro+ macro, images must already be attached in Confluence: the toolbar inserts them, and outside image URLs are not loaded because of Atlassian's data policy.
