\AA is a text-mode command in LaTeX and is not defined in KaTeX. The portable spelling is \mathring{A}, which renders in LaTeX, KaTeX and MathJax alike. For unit typesetting in full documents, siunitx's \angstrom is cleanest.
All ways to write it
| Command | Use | Package | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
\mathrm{\AA} | math mode, base LaTeX | nonenot in KaTeX | |
\AA | text mode | nonenot in KaTeX | |
\text{\AA} | inside math via \text | nonenot in KaTeX | |
\mathring{A} | portable: ring accent on A — works in KaTeX | none | |
\si{\angstrom} | — | siunitxnot in KaTeX |
Commands marked with a package need that \usepackage line in a LaTeX document. “Not in KaTeX” means the command will not render in KaTeX- or MathJax-based tools such as Markdown previews, Jupyter and Confluence math apps; use one of the other forms there.
Example
\lambda = 5461\,\mathring{A}A wavelength in angstroms, using the portable form.

Using angstrom in Confluence
Confluence Cloud has no built-in LaTeX. With LaTeX Math for Confluence you add a math macro to any page, type \mathrm{\AA} and it renders inline or as a block, with a live preview while you edit. The app uses KaTeX, so pick one of the commands above that is not marked “not in KaTeX”.
