Admin guide

Markdown Macro+ has two settings: who can save the macro, and the templates people can start from. Both are on the app's settings page, which only Confluence admins and site admins can open.

Open the settings

• In Confluence, go to Settings (gear) and find Markdown Macro+ for Confluence under Apps, or
• go to Manage apps, expand Markdown Macro+ for Confluence and click Configure.

The Manage templates button in the editors also opens it, in a new tab.

Permissions

The Only admins can add or edit Markdown macros switch is off by default.

• Off: anyone who can edit a page can add and edit the macro.
• On: only Confluence admins and site admins can save the macro editor. Others see a notice in the editor and can't save, but everyone who can view a page still sees the rendered content.

Admins are members of a confluence-admins group, site-admins or org-admins.

This switch applies to the macro editor. Edit with Markdown and New page from Markdown follow the page's own Confluence permissions: you need to be able to edit the page, or add pages to the space.

Templates

Create, edit, activate and delete templates in the Templates section. Only active templates are offered to people. See Templates and variables.

Updates waiting for approval

Edit with Markdown and New page from Markdown need permission to read, update and create pages. That permission comes with an app update that a Confluence admin has to approve once.

Until it is approved:

• admins see a banner on the settings page: "An update to Markdown Macro+ is waiting for approval"
• Edit with Markdown and New page show a message asking people to contact an admin
• the macro, templates and settings keep working as before

To approve, go to Manage apps, find Markdown Macro+ for Confluence and accept the update.

Data

The app runs on Atlassian Forge. Templates and the permission setting are stored in the app's Forge storage, and the Markdown is stored in the page. Nothing is sent outside Atlassian.
